«Прощай другим многое, себе ничего» is "Ignoscas aliis multa, sed nihil tibi" (forgive others much, yourself nothing) word for word. The Latin Library's Publilius prints the line in its section «Sententiae falso inter Publilianas receptae» (sayings wrongly received among Publilius's), followed by the related "Ignoscito saepe alteri, numquam tibi" (forgive another often, yourself never). Without "sed", the line is in the Sayings of the Seven Sages transmitted with Ausonius's works, as a saying of Cleobulus of Lindos. Older editions of Publilius took it in, which probably accounts for Tolstoy's attribution; the Jubilee editors left it. Lyman's English (1856, no. 343) is "Pardon the offense of others, but never your own" (the scan reads "ofiense"). The collection Tolstoy used was not found.
