5. One man asked another why he was doing a thing he did not approve of.
“Because everyone does it,” the other answered.
“Well, let us say not everyone,” said the first, “because I, for one, do not do it, nor do some others whom I can point out to you.”
“Well, if not everyone, then a great many, most people.”
“Then tell me, please,” the first asked again, “which people are there more of in the world, intelligent or stupid?”
“Stupid ones, of course!”
“Well, if that is so, then in imitating the majority you are imitating the stupid.”

Not found. The Jubilee name index (vol. 42) lists «К.» with this page alone (vol. 41, p. 555) and does not say who it is. The dialogue (asked why he does work he has no sympathy for, a man answers that everyone does it; told that not everyone does, he says that most people do; asked whether the world holds more wise people or fools, he says fools; so, imitating the majority, he imitates fools) was not found in any source. Its point is Seneca's: human affairs are not so well ordered that the better pleases the greater number, and the crowd is the proof of the worst (related); the dialogue itself is not in Seneca.
Searched: The Jubilee vol. 42 name index and commentary; the saved Jubilee vols. 40, 43, and 45; every saved source for a question of more wise men or fools in English (wise or foolish, more fools than wise), German (Narren, Weise, Klugen), French (sots, sages, fous), and Russian («умных или глупых», «все так делают»); a web search for «подражая большинству, подражаешь глупым».
Translation note. The passage is signed with the initial «К.» alone.
