Neither the sentence nor its author was found. The Jubilee name index has «Спрингфильд Георг (р. 1861) — английский писатель — т. 41: 235», with no source, and no English writer of that name was found. Whether the signature names a person or a newspaper such as the Springfield Republican could not be settled. A column of sayings in the Lodzer Volkszeitung (1929, no. 307) prints the sentence in German, signed «Springfield», and names no work. Thoughts of Wise Men (1903) and the epigraphs of «Одумайтесь!» (1904), where many of the Circle's sayings on war come from, do not have it.
