The Sacred Anthology… this is no humility.
He who says, ' I know nothing,' is shrewd ; he who says, ' I am learned,' is a talker.
He who holds his peace is the wisest and the best.

2. He is not humble who says of himself that he is humble. He who says “I know nothing” is wise; he who says “I am learned” is a babbler. He who keeps silent is wiser and better than all.

Что измененоБенарес исчез: «Why say, „I will go to Benares?“» у Конвея стало «Зачем говорить: я пойду на поклонение богу?», вместо «thou shalt behold the king» — «ты увидишь его», а «twice-born» Конвея, дважды рожденный, — тот, кто «родится снова».

4. Without purity of soul, why worship God? Why say: I will go to worship God? How can he who does evil worship God?
Holiness is not in the forests, not in heaven, not on earth, not in the sacred rivers. Purify your body, and you will see him. Make your body a temple, cast off bad thoughts, and contemplate God with the inner eye. When we come to know him, we come to know ourselves. Without personal experience, scripture alone will not destroy our fears, just as darkness is not dispelled by a painted fire. Whatever your faith and your prayers may be, so long as there is no righteousness in you, you will not reach the path of good. He who comes to know the truth will be born again.
The source of the true good is in the heart: mad is he who seeks it elsewhere. He is like a shepherd looking for a lamb that he has in his bosom.
Why do you gather stones and build great temples? Why do you torment yourselves so, when God lives always within you?
A yard dog is better than a lifeless idol in the house, and better than all the demigods is the great God of the world.
That light which, like the morning star, lives within the heart of every man, that light is our refuge.

Что измененоВместо того, что «the living principle exists in your own body», как у Веманы и Брауна, — «начало жизни сейчас существует в твоем духе»; религия поз, по Брауну «just one straw inferior to the exercises of the wrestler» (у Конвея — «just a little inferior»), стала «ниже даже упражнений борца», вместо «the mind» — «душою», а «day and night» опущено.

Only he among the sons of men deserves the name of holy who is conscious of God in his heart. Know yourself — and you will become a deity.
